| The trombone has evolved from the earlier sackbut & is a cylindrical bore instrument ending in a bell shape. It is characterised by a telescopic slide with which the player varies the length of the tubing in order to change the pitch. The orchestral trombone is usually in the bass (BC) or tenor clef in concert pitch & therefore not a transposing instrument like the trumpet. A brass band trombonist however plays in the treble clef.(TC) |
